The mission of the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) is to preserve the integrity of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Culture. The Association is committed to:
-Insuring that teachers of ASL meet the highest level of professional competence in knowledge and skill;
-Improving the professional status of ASL and Deaf Studies teachers, and
-Promoting the teaching of ASL in all levels of education. ASLTA supports the growth of the profession of American Sign Language and Deaf Studies teaching through exchange of ideas among teachers on best teaching practices at local, state, and national levels.
